Suzy graduated with Honours in Ceramics from ECUAD in 1980. She is inspired by the visual and spiritual impact of art from Ancient and contemporary World Cultures. Travels to Europe, SE Asia and Mexico particularly inform her work, as does India.
"The artist references historical women and popular culture in order to build composites of a current ‘self.’ She channels an eclectic mix of past female powerhouses like Frida Kahlo, Queen Nefertiti, Carmen Miranda, Gelede, Catrina Calaveras, Ganesha, South Asian goddesses, Athena and Acropolis Korai, and Alice in Wonderland. The women are ecstatic, gazing at the viewer through layers of past knowledge."
Karen Moe in SADMAG
Suzy creates and teaches to the rhythms of Jazz, Blues, Tango, and Opera greats. She has two studios in Vancouver: her Clay studio in Kitsilano and Painting studio at 1000 Parker St. She has taught clay sculpture to children aged four to nineteen, every Saturday for 29 years at beloved Arts Umbrella.
Her "Motion Pitchers" were commissioned as gifts for 2008 Academy Award nominees.
"Ceramic Slippers" were commissioned for 2014 "Tap Grace Awards" (see Gallery)
Her colourful tableware was a highlight for many restaurants, including Vancouver's iconic
Tomato Cafe and The Bon Ton.
Suzy's art has been exhibited, published, and collected locally and internationally.
